At nine days old, Doberman puppies are still in the neonatal stage of development. During this time, they spend nearly all of their day sleeping and nursing, with growth happening rapidly but quietly.
The puppies in this litter are not yet able to see or hear. Their eyes and ears remain closed, and movement is limited to instinctive crawling and rooting behaviors that help them find warmth and nurse efficiently. At this stage, a calm environment and consistent care are essential.
Daily weight gain is the most important indicator of health in the first days of life. Each puppy is monitored closely to ensure they are nursing well and gaining steadily. Any puppy that needs additional support receives it immediately to keep development on track.
Temperature regulation, hydration, and milk intake are carefully managed during the neonatal period. These early days require constant observation and experience, as small changes can have a significant impact on long-term health.
While this stage may look peaceful from the outside, it is one of the most critical periods in a Doberman puppy’s development. Proper care during the first weeks helps build the foundation for strong immune systems, stable temperaments, and healthy growth as the puppies mature.
At Broadway Dobermans, our puppies are raised in-home with attentive, hands-on care from the very beginning. These quiet early days are where responsible Doberman breeding truly begins
